ROMAN COINS FOUND IN BRITAIN
by Adrian Marsden
|
|
Adrian is a specialist in Roman coins, which
he has collected for a number of years. He recently completed his
Doctorate on "Roman Imperial Portraiture and Propaganda in the Third
Century" at Oxford University. His particular interests include the
contemporary imitations of Roman coins, especially those of the third
century, and the coinage of the later third century.
In this book Adrian provides a general introduction for
the beginner - detectorist, collector or archaeologist. It covers all the
Roman coins likely to be found in Britain, including the contemporary
imitations. The chapter on prices and the inserted price guide provides a
realistic introduction to the values of coins in the market place at the
moment. The illustrations, of which there are many, come mainly from the
author's collections and these are the highlight of the book, although
some have a rather overpowering "golden" cast.
Another excellent guide from Greenlight.
