Numismatic Museum
The Presveis Project
is a EU co-funded project, aiming to raise the awareness of an
international public to the fact that monetary unions have happened in
the past, under a variety of circumstances. The examples displayed in
this cyber-exhibition depict instances of monetary unions of various
forms that happened in the antiquity in the continent of Europe.
British Museum
The Coins and Medals Department has one of the world's
finest collections, containing about a million objects. The magnificent
coin collection covers the history of coinage from its origins in the
7th century BC to the present day, and includes related material such as
coin weights, tokens and toy money.
The Department also holds the national collection of
paper money, containing notes ranging from 14th century China to current
issues from banks all over the world.
In addition to the wide range of numismatic material,
the Department holds an unparalleled collection of commemorative and art
medals. These provide a visual record of historical events and schools
of art from the Italian Renaissance to the 21st century.
Dewing Numismatic Foundation catalogue of Greek Coins
The Perseus Project and the Dewing
Numismatic Foundation are pleased to announce the availability of high
resolution images to illustrate a catalog of Greek Coins from the Dewing
Collection. 452 Greek coins from this important collection, on loan to
the Harvard University Art Museums, are now illustrated with high
resolution images in the Perseus coin catalog.

permanent collection and this site gives a small taster of the contents
of the collection.

"More than Money", an exhibition in honour
of Abraham Bromberg. He appreciated the significance of these tiny
witnesses to the past. He was one of the great coin collectors of our
time and a devoted supporter of the Israel Museum's Numismatic
Department.
He donated the major part of his collection, which is regarded as the
most important private collection of ancient Jewish coins ever
assembled, to the Israel Museum.

Colonial Currency : A catalog featuring
hundreds of examples of colonial paper currency with supplementary
sections on colonial lottery tickets and fiscal documents. Currency
examples range from the New York issue of May 31, 1709 to the fractional
currency privately emitted in the 1790's during the copper panic.
Emissions are listed under the colony of issue followed by Continental
Congress issues. There are a number of notes printed by Benjamin
Franklin and several Massachusetts examples by Paul Revere. The site
also includes explanatory essays on such topics as the first paper
currency emission in the colonies, the relative value of local money in
the colonies and land bank notes. The lottery section contains a ticket
from the first government sponsored lottery in the colonies, the
Massachusetts 1744-45 lottery.

"Coins of Colonial and Early America" :
A catalog and historical essay on the coins of colonial and early
America from wampum and Massachusetts silver through the provisional
half dimes of 1792. The catalog contains over 275 coins divided by coin
types. Each section contains an introductory essay reflecting recent
scholarship followed by full color high-quality jpeg images and
descriptions for each coin. A few highlights include: a group of Spanish
American gold ingots from 1659, a well preserved Noe 1 Oak Tree
shilling, a Higley copper, a Continental "dollar", a 1784
imitation British halfpenny and a 1792 half dime.

Washington Tokens : This
catalog includes descriptions and images of about one hundred coins,
tokens and medals depicting George Washington dating from 1783 to the
Inauguration Centennial medals of 1889. The items are organized
chronologically and a full site map is available as well as a listing by
Baker number. A few of the highlights in the collection are: an example
of the earliest Washington token the 1783 Georgius Triumpho copper, a
Born Virginia token, an example of a Washington memorial funeral token
created by Jacob Perkins, a Washington Monument token of 1848 and one of
a very few surviving examples of the NO GOOD token. Most of the items on
exhibit were part of an anonymous donation to Notre Dame consisting of
1100 tokens and medals covering the Nineteenth century.

Institution
National Numismatic Collection (NNC)
of
the Smithsonian Institution, one of the largest numismatic collections
in the world. Located in the National Museum of American History, the
NNC includes approximately one million objects--more than 400,000 coins
and some 550,000 pieces of paper money and encompasses the entire
history of money of the world, coins and paper money, as well as medals.
